The next training events will take place in September 2014.  The training will take place on a Saturday from 10am-4pm, in London and Huddersfield.  Attendance is mandatory.

Would you like to make a difference to cancer services?

We are looking for new patient and carer representatives to join the National Peer Review Programme in England.

Why get involved?

You can use your experience as a cancer patient or carer and make a vital contribution to improving NHS cancer services.
You will be fully integrated in the review of clinical teams and can ensure the patient perspective and voice is heard.

What skills and experience are needed?

Skills

  • Good listener and communicator
  • Good at working in teams
  • Ability to prepare for a review in advance, reading the documentation which will be sent by email only
  • Able to travel and stay overnight
  • Internet access to download documents and prepare for the review in advance. Documents are only sent by email only.

Experience

First-hand experience of cancer services in the last 3 years as a patient or carer. If you were a patient, then please note you need to be able to maintain project enthusiasm during the review day (approximately 6 hours plus travel time).

Training

To prepare you for the review process, you will be required to attend 1 day training session to understand the review process.
You will also be offered a “buddy” on your first review for support and mentoring.

Expenses

Travel and expenses are reimbursed for all meetings and hospital reviews. Also a £100 honorarium is granted for each review visit and £50 for training day.
Accommodation is arranged by the programme when necessary.
